IRB man opens fire, creates panic at Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, April 18 2012:
Kangpokpi denizens were left in a panicky situation last night as personnel of 4th IRB posted at ADC, Complex Kangpokpi opened four rounds of fire at around 8 pm yesterday.
Commader of the Post, Punsi confessed in a meeting held this morning in the office of the Kangpokpi Town Committee in the presence of KTC Chairman and Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization member that the gunshots were fired by mistake by one of his men.
He termed the incident as very unfortunate and apologised to the people denizens in this regard.
Punsi also assured that no untoward incident would happen in future and suitable action would be initiated against the guilty personnel.
On the other hand, a reliable source said that the involved IRB man has been put under suspension.
The personnel hails from Thoubal district, the source added.
In today's meeting, KWWO representatives urged the Commander to control his men strictly not to repeat such incident in future and requested the higher authority concerned to initiate suitable action against the guilty personnel.
They also warned that the organisation would not remain silent if such incidents happen in future.
Kangpokpi Town Committee Chairman Chonkam Kipgen warned the Commander that drastic action would be initiated according to the customary law of the Kangpokpi town administration if such incidents are repeated.
Meanwhile, locals residing near the ADC complex alleged that IRB personnel stationed at ADC complex got drunk every night.
They suspected that the incident might occur due to intoxication.
Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization condemned the incident in the strongest term.
Terming it as barbaric action it said that without any reason security forces stationing at Kangpokpi have been disturbing the peaceful environment of the town.
