92nd Raising Day of 5 AR celebrated

Imphal, April 18 2012:
The 5 AR today celebrated its 92nd Raising Day at its battalion at Maram.
According to a press statement released by the PIB (DW), the function was graced by Brigadier SK Sharma, Commander 59 Mountain Brigade as the Chief Guest.
The press statement further stated that the 5AR was raised on 10 June 1920 by Captain John Donald Oglivy from the first King George's Gorkha Rifles at Lokra, Assam.
In 1962, during the Chinese invasion, the battalion fought gallantly while manning 20 outpost on the Indo-Tibet border.
The Battalion is deployed in Manipur sionce 2006 both ast Jiribam eartlier and now at Maram.
The Battalion, ever since its inception, has been performing exceedingly in all spheres of operations and sports.
The Unit is carrying out numerous civic action programmes with the aim of bringing development in the region.
