Imphal, September 12 2014 :
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has said that it is still ready to hold dialogue with the Government if the arrested members of the committee are released and the service of Additional SP Y Victoria is put under suspension.
In a statement, JCILPS Publicity Committee Convenor W Ananda said that Government's invitation for talks was turned down by the committee as the State Government had shown lack of commitment and dishonesty on the issue of ILPS implementation.
Saying that closure of educational institutions was a violation of Right to Education Act 2009, Ananda said that such moves have given an impression that the State Government is not committed to implementing the ILPS in the State.
Expressing serious concern over the arrest of JCILPS members and their family members one after another, Ananda cautioned that such action would only instigate to a June 18 like people's uprising.
Maintaining that Government must not harm or harass its people but protect them, Ananda said that democracy must not be suppressed by militarization.
The demand for ILPS implementation does not intend to harass non-locals but to protect indigenous people, which is even granted by international laws.
Saying that JCILPS respects the invitation for talks from the Government and the committee had even submitted the names of 16 members who would take part in the dialogue, Ananda said that the invitation was later turned down as police started arresting its members.
