At least 40 people were injured when a fully loaded bus heading to repair deteriorated Guite Road in Churachandpur district met with an accident at the bank of Tuivai River bank today at about 10 am.
The injured people were among those who took part in a protest rally against the government failure to repair the Guite road for a long time and who were heading to the road for repair the worst the stretch of the road, reports reaching here said.
Around 1000 people who gathered at Lamka public ground in protest against the government's failure to improve the district road headed on the road in around 200 buses and trucks for repairing the road after a meeting held at Suongdoh village organised by the Zomi Students' Federation.
One of the ill-fated vehicles plunged into the Tuivai river before reaching the Mata village injuring around
40 people.
They have been evacuated at the Churachandpur hospital.
Four seriously injured persons have been referred to hospitals in Imphal, the report said.
