The North east region had to import 714 million unit of power as the generation of hydel power came down due to shortage of rainfall last year, officials of the North East Regional Load Despatch Centre informed the 8th Technical Co-ordination meeting of the North East Regional Power Committee which began from today at Classic Hotel here.
On the first day of the meeting being held with Manipur as host State today, with the main objective of improving the situation of power in the region, Chief Manager of North East Regional Load Despatch Centre, Sutradhar informed the other participating officials that Northeast region had to import 714 million unit of power from outside as the region suffered a deficit on 925 million unit on account of shortage of rainfall last year which affected generation of hydel power.
The official also stressed on a network of 400 KV transmission line for the region to improve its power transmission.
The meeting chaired by Chief Engineer of Power, Government of Manipur N Sarat was attended by officials from Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, NPTC and Power Grid.
Other common issues related to the power situation in the Northeast region were also discussed during the meeting.
On the second day of the meeting tomorrow, the Chief Ministerwill inaugurate a meeting of all the Power Ministers of the North Eastern States.
Apart from Sikkim, the Power Ministers of all other North Eastern States would be attending the meeting.
