Imphal, August 08:
Categorically stating that Th Manorama was killed in the custody of Assam Rifles, ADGP C Peter today told The Sangai Express that if the Assam Rifles authority does not co-operate with the police in investigating the case, then the State Government will not remain quiet but intimate the matter to the Centre.
Mincing no words, the senior police officer said that it is irrefutable that Th Manorama was killed in the custody of the Assam Rifles maintaining that even if she was shot dead while trying to escape; it was custodial killing as the woman tried to escape from the AR men.
"There is no way for the Assam Rifles to extricate themselves from this case," observed C Peter.
Stating that the State Police Department have taken up a case in connection with the killing, the police officer said that repeated reminders to the Assam Rifles authority to produce those who had issued the arrest memo at the time of picking up Th Manorama have not been complied with till date.
Even the CO of 17 Assam Rifles has been repeatedly reminded to extend his cooperation, said the ADGP and added that if this continues, then the matter would be highlighted to the Centre.
Meanwhile, to deal with the call given by the Apunba Lup to launch a civil disobedience movement from tomorrow, the police officer said that security has been deployed for area domination.
