Nepali villagers of Chandraman, Pokhari and Mukuli under Kangpokpi Police Station are yet to pick up the thread of life after the massive landslide that hit the area on the night of July 22.More than 45 families have been rendered homeless and are presently taking shelter at the relief camps being opened at Kalapahar.
According to reports, a large portion of Koubru range crumbled under the impact of torrential rain on the night of July 22 last leaving behind a trail of devastation and miseries in its wake.
There are in all 45 houses in the bifurcated Chandraman and Pokhari villages.
Out of the 45 houses, atleast 20 houses have been destroyed in the landslide rendering the villagers homeless.
The inmates of 25 houses in the neighbouring Mukuli village, which has 35 houses in all, also suffered the same fate.
Family members of the 45 houses, which have been destroyed in the landslide, numbering 235, are presently putting up at the makeshift relief camps being set up at Kalapahar Primary School with formation of a relief committee which is looking after their needs.
Enumerating on the problems being faced by the landslide victims to a team of media persons who had gone to the relief camp today, secretary general of the Relief Committee, Milan Pradhan informed that no relief material have been provided from the side of the Government till date.
Apart from some relief materials in the forms of food grain and monetary assistance extended by Outer Manipur MP Mani Charenamei, Kangpokpi kendra MLA, Kalapahar Gram Panchayat Pradhan, State Bank Employees Gurkha Association, Praja Pita Brahma Kumari Eshwariya Vishwa Vidyalayala, the Committee has not received any assistance from the Government in running the relief camp, the Committee general secretary said.
Outer Manipur MP Mani Charenamei had reportedly provided 15 rice bags of 50 kgs each and other relief materials, 23 rice bags of 50 kgs each, 1 can of Mustard oil, 1 dal bag by Kangpokpi Kendra MLA Thangminlen Kipgen, another 32 rice bags of 50 kgs each by Kalapahar GP pradhan and 6 more rice bags of 50 kgs each along with 30 kgs of dal by Praja Pita Brahma Kumari Eshwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya to the relief committee besides a monetary assistasnce of Rs.
