Imphal, August 08:
Strongly reacting to the statement of Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee that the AFSPA would not be revoked front Manipur, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup today said that the thoughtless utterances would not be taken lightly and warned that if the people were to take up anti-Constitutional activities, India would lose her place as the biggest democracy of the world.
In a statement, the Committee said that the Army Court of Inquiry referred to by Mukherjee was as good as over, the moment the body of Manorama, was found.
Going into the past atrocities of the security personnel, the statement said that many students, many innocent people and women have been killed and raped under the immunity granted by the AFSPA.
This is a fact that should have registered in the mind of Pranab Mukherjee, said the statement.
The time has also come for the people to teach the history of the land to Home Minister Shivraj Patil, said the statement adding that the situation in Manipur before the Act was imposed and after it was enforced here should be made clear to them.
Custodial killings have become the gift of New Delhi to the people of Manipur under the guise of protecting peace, said the Apunba Lup.
The Committee also went hammer and tongs against Chief Minister O Ibobi and his men and added that the last bluff of the Chief Minister will be called on August 15.
