Strongly condemning the act of sacrilege committed by a group of people at the sacred site of Kounu Lairembi located at Leimakhong area by pelting stones on October 4, the Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has warned that intense modes of agitation may be launched if the issue is not properly settled at the level of the Chief Minister by October 14 .
Speaking to media persons at the Jupiter Yambem Centre, Paona Keithel this afternoon, KKL general secretary Ngamkheingakpa Luwang said that the KKL was deeply hurt by the act of smashing the holy shrine of Kounu Lairembi which is deeply revered by the Meitei community.
Since ages, the Meitei community has been living by the principle of harmonious co-existence among all the indigenous of the State.
But a particular community conveniently overlooked all the peaceful disposition of Meitei community and they desecrated the holy shrine seemingly under the influence of an external force.
The Meitei community would never remain silent to such acts of sacrilege, Ngamkheingakpa said.
Decrying the silence of the local MLA and the Chief Minister over the highly provocative and blasphemous act, he asserted that the Government would be committing gross injustice against the Meitei community if it chooses not to take up any action.
He went on to question as to why the Government has not yet bothered to intervene into the issue.
The JAC Against Destruction of Ima Kounu Lairembi Shrine convenor Jiban Meitei said that two groups of people were preparing to sign an agreement after negotiation following a brawl among some youngsters when people of another area who were not related to the brawl came and attacked the holy site.
Saying that similar attacks took place in the past too, the convenor expressed keen desire to settle the issue at the State level as Kounu Lairembi is deeply revered by the whole Meitei community.
