AMSU submits memo to PM on issue of awarding gallantry medal to tainted cop

The All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has said that a memorandum has been submitted to the Prime Minister in regard to the issue of awarding 'Chief Minister Medal For Gallantry' to a sub-inspector who has been named in an ongoing drug seizure case.
According to a release of AMSU, an order was issued by Joint Secretary (Home) and the award was stripped of from sub-inspector Bheisamayum Debson Singh in the evening of August 16.Later B Debson Singh and Inspector E Roshan Singh who was the Reader to SP Imphal East were placed under suspension.
An enquiry committee led by K Radhashyam Singh, IGP (Int), was constituted to enquire into the matter.
An order signed by DGP LM Khaute stated that an enquiry committee has been constituted and the committee will submit its report in a week time.
On August 17, AMSU submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding to constitute a "High level Independent Enquiry Committee" led by a retired High Court judge to enquire into the matter.
The copies were also submitted to the Chief Minister and the DGP.
On August 19, AMSU again reiterated its demand of a High level Independent Enquiry Committee.
However, instead of fulfilling the demands, on August 20 Imphal Police Station summoned president and secretary general of AMSU HQ, the release said.
AMSU again wrote a letter to the DGP on September 5 asking to make the enquiry report public, it said.
"It has been one and half months but there is still no positive response from the State Government side.
So, AMSU submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister regading the issue and a copy to the Home Minister," it added.
