Imphal, June 30:
Governor Ved Marwah has urged the councillors of the Imphal Municipal Council to keep Imphal city neat and clean and to start a campaign for the same on a competitive giving priorities to market places, public toilets, hospitals and places of public gathering.
The Governor, who was addressing the councillors during a meeting at the Raj Bhavan yesterday, also invited suggestions from the members present and assured them of his best efforts to achieve this goal.
The Governor announced that a running trophy and a number of cash awards would be given from his side to some of the best wards in Imphal in the cleanliness competition of Imphal city every year.
To a question from a councillor regarding non-functioning of drainage, the Governor further announced that an officer from the PHED would be designated as nodal officer who will oversee proper functioning of the drainage within Imphal area.
The Governor also enquired about a place for disposal of solid garbage and agreed to a proposal of the council to allot an area of 7 acres at Lamdeng Khunou.
He also assured the councillors to provide more vehicles for transportation of garbage.
