Imphal, June 30:
The Thoubal district based Action Comittee Against Indo-Naga Ceasefire Extension in Manipur has demanded the resignation of the ten MLAs who were elected from the district by .July 8 next.
The committee has warned that the families of the ten MLAs would be banished from the district if the MLAs failed to comply with that deadline.
The committee has also complained that owing to the bandhs and curfew over the ceasefire extension issue, the rural villagers were unable to obtain adequate quantities of essential commodities and fertilizers.
This has not only created great inconvenience, but also placed next year's paddy crop in jeopardy; the committee stated and demanded that government mobile fair price shops should be opened to ensure that essential commodities are provided to the public.
In the meantime, a public meeting attended by over 500 people was held today at Thoubal Ningombam Luxmi Bazar in connection with the cease-fire extension issue.
The meeting condoled the death of 14 persons in the June 18 uprising, and observed a minute's silence in their memory.
The meeting also pledged to protect Manipur's territorial integrity and to extend full support to any step taken by the AMSU and the AMUCO.
Sources also said meira paibis of the district would hold mass midnight vigil on July 5 next, to register opposition to the ceasefire extension.
