Imphal, June 30:
Shradha ceremonies for five deceased persons who died in the June 18 CRPF firing were held today at the respective residences of the deceased.
The five persons were: Konsam Kameshore Meitei and Mayanglangbam Manikanta Meitei of Khurai Konsam Leikai, Thokchom Lalit of Yaiskul Janmasthan, Thokchom Wilson of Nongmeibung Nanbam Chuthek and Guneshore Singh of Khoijuman ward no.4, Bishnupur.
The shradh ceremonies were attended by thousands of sympathizers, well-wishers and relatives.
The Rup Raag reportedly paid musical tribute to the deceased at the ceremony at Nongmeibung.
Meanwhile, notwithstanding the prohibitions under Section 144 CrPC in the Greater Imphal areas, a sit-in against the Indo-NSCN(IM) cease-fire extension was staged today by several hundreds of women at Top Moirang Kampu near the bridge.
The peaceful demonstration was participated by members of the Voluntary Organization for Manipur Territorial Integrity, Top Moirangkampu; Top Awang Leikai Mahila Mandal, Top Moirangkampu Nupi Thoudang Lup, Top Awang Leikai Nupisingi Apunba Lup, Moirang Kampu Sajeb Makha Leikai Meira Paibi, Moirangkampu Sajeb Awang Leikai Meira Paibi, Top Awang Khunou Meira Paibi Lup and Top Awang Leikai Apunba Nupisingi Lup, Khewa Bazar.
Another sit-in was also staged in front of the Huikap community hall with all the local meira paibis and club members participating.
More than 100 members most of whom were girls participated in the sit-in.
The participants of the peaceful demonstration held placard and festoons which condemned the alleged malevolent attitude of the government of India towards Manipur and demanded immediate withdrawal of the cease-fire with NSCN(IM) from Manipur.
The Sugnu Area United Clubs' Organization and the Social Welfare Club, Hiyangthang Mayai Leikai, have also strongly opposed the Indo-NSCN(IM) ceasefire extension to the territory of Manipur and demanded immediate withdrawal of the cease-fire from Manipur.
They also pledged unrelenting support to the ongoing movement of the people to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.
