Imphal, December 31 2011:
Sharply reacting to allegations made by Opposition parties that the Government of Manipur survives by begging from the Centre, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi asserted that the State Government was not begging but was taking what it deserved for development programmes.
Speaking at a political conference organised by Patsoi Block Congress Committee at Takyel Kolom Leikai today, Ibobi stated that funds for development programmes were allotted to all States based on their population from the Union Government's budget.
There is no question of begging these funds which were allotted every year.
These funds were what the State deserved, Ibobi stated.
The State Government has been planning to make Manipur self reliant by using funds allotted by the Centre properly and implementing projects and schemes successfully.
Whatever development programmes undertaken by MPCC vice-president AK Mirabai in Patsoi was because of the goodwill of Ministers and MLAs enjoyed by Mirabai for her dedication to the Congress party for long years.
The conference was also addressed by Minister K Ranjit, MLA Y Surchandra and AK Mirabai.
