Governor, others extend Janmashtami greetings

Manipur Governor La Ganeshan, chief minister N Biren Singh and othersed the people of Manipur on the occasion of Janmashtami, which falls on Monday.
In his message, the Governor said that the festival of Janmashtami (Krishna Janma) celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna and symbolises the divine richness of "Karmyoga", the way to attain spiritual heights through a ceaseless effort to achieye excellence in one's work.
Lord Krishna's universal message, as given to us through Bhagwat Gita, has guided us through centuries to stand firm in the fight for truth and justice against all odds, he said.
On this festive day, let us remind ourselves of the teachings of Lord Krishna and work for promotion of peace, cooperation and mutual goodwill among all sections of our diverse society, he added.
Chief minister Biren in his message said that among the pantheon of Hindu Gods, Janmashtami is a festival dedicated to the worshipping of Lord Krishna.
As per the Hindu calendar, this year's celebration will mark the 5248th birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, he said called upon the people to remember Lord Krishna's message of Karmayoga which is a call to focus on our responsibilities rather than caring for rewards.
This teaching is relevant to each one of us, irrespective of our profession or our standing in society, Biren said.
He also urged the people to maintain Covid appropriate behaviqur and avoid social gathering to protect oneself from the Covid-19 pandemic while celebrating the festival.
Manipur Legislative Assembly speaker Y Khemchand Singh, IPR minister Th Biswajit Singh and Consumers' Affairs Food & Public Distribution minister Th Satyabrata Singh also extended their greetings and warm wishes on the occasion of Janmashtami.
In their messages, the trio said that Janmashtami is an occasion which celebrates the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and urged the people to remember the eternal messages taught by Lord Krishna through Bhagawat Gita.
They also wished that the festival brings peace, love, happiness, prosperity and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood in the state.
