Imphal, September 21 2015:
Appealing to those who are trying to disturb the communal harmony of Manipur State, Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council secretary Dr Moirangthem Nara said that disintegration of the social fabric will not bring any good result.
Dr Nara made the appeal on Monday during the 67th Manipur Kanba Numit programme organised by Irabot Celebration Committee, Manipur at the Irabot Memorial Hall, Chalou, Imphal East.
Nara said that a solution should be brought through talks to end the current agitations launched by the hill people against the three Bills passed by the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 last.
Each and every community in the State should try to co-operate each other, said the CPI Manipur State Council secretary while adding that nothing will be gained by upholding enmity and hatred.
Appealing to the external forces to stop putting wedge among the different groups, Dr Nara questioned the real outcome of such policies.
Condemning the interference by Nagaland and Mizoram Chief Ministers in the internal affairs of Manipur State, Nara lamented that no one should interfere in the internal affairs of other States with secret agenda and said that CPI will not remain a mere spectator if the leaders of both the States continue to threaten the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Speaking on the theme of the function, Nara said that the erstwhile independent kingdom of Manipur, which has over its own history spanning up to 2000 years, was supposed to merge by India into a Purbanchal Pradesh along with Tripura, Mizoram, Cachar of Assam and Karbi Anglong in 1948. Hijam Irabot called a meeting on September 21 of the same year at MDU Hall against the Indian Government's policy.
One police officer was accidentally shot dead himself when police personnel tried to stop a large number of people from Lamlai side who were heading towards the MDU Hall to attend the meeting.
Charging Hijam Irabot for the police officer's death, a number of people were arrested and tortured and sent to jail and forced Irabot to go underground.
The day which stood against the Indian Government's policy that aimed at disintegrating the Manipur State has been observing every year as Manipur Kanba Numit, said Dr Nara.
It is unfortunate that Kukis and Nagas have started demanding their own home lands which is against the wishes of Hijam Irabot who dreamt of a united Manipur State, said Nara and added that the demand has created fears among the public.
On the present scenario concerning the territorial boundary of Manipur, CPI along with leaders of hill communities will jointly meet on September 30 at MDU Hall, announced Nara and added that after September 30 a campaign will be launched to make a united Manipur.
Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council veteran leader comrade Moirangthem Ibohal, CPI Manipur State Council Control Commission Chairman comrade B Sharma, All Manipur Nupi Marup patron member comrade Y Ibeni, CPI Manipur State Council Imphal East in Charge comrade A Lala and Irabot Celebration Committee Manipur Chairman comrade Mangi and several leaders of CPI also attended the function.
