International Women's Day observed at DM College

Imphal, March 12 2015:
International Women's Day was observed by DM College of Arts on Thursday at their college premises.
The function was graced by Former Dean of Social Sciences, Manipur University Prof Ksh Bimola and Principal of DM college of Arts Dr A Nungshitombi as chief guest and president respectively.
The secretary of Women Action for Development, Imphal and convener of Women Committee United NGOs Mission-Manipur, Sobita Mangsatabam and HoD of English department, DM college of Arts, Imphal, Dr Ch Sheelaramani were the resource persons.
The programme kick stated with candle lighting and presentation of gifts followed by presentation of keynote address by the convener of the organizing committee of International Women's Day observation programme 2015 Dr S Sakhitombi Devi.

Sobita Mangsatabam enlightened the students and audience about crime against women with facts, data and examples while referring to 'Beijing declaration'.
She said that participation at each level especially in decision making is the only way to fight against gender discrimination.
She also encouraged the students to read news-papers regularly as the youth lacked awareness about the effectiveness of media.
She highlighted the misuse of women's rights in various sector and pointed out non-implementation of schemes meant widows and misuse of 33% women reservation in Panchayati Raj.
Dr Ch Sheelaramani spoke about Women's Movement in Manipur in the context of International Women's Day 2015 and various such movements in Russia, America, France etc in history as women are being victimized from time to time.
Chief Guest Prof Ksh Bimola, in her speech highlighted gender discrimination and treatment of women as inferior beings.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr T Rita after the presidential address from Dr A Nungshitombi.
