Imphal, March 10 2014 :
Saying that it has always boycotted elections held under the Indian Constitution, the Manipur State Council Humanity Party of India (MSCHPI) today reiterated its stand to boycott the ensuing 16th Lok Sabha polls in Manipur.
The erstwhile kingdom of Manipur got independence and elections were held under its own constitution and ruled it under a systematic regime until the popular government was abolished in 1949 only to merge the state into the Indian Union on October 15 the same year, Y Biren, general secretary, MSCHPI said while addressing newsmen at the party's office in Kwakeithel here.
He said, "We've clearly made our stand to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The party will continue to reject further elections held under the Indian Constitution in the State" .
He also cited that the then Governor General of India, Lord Mountbatten disclaimed the controversial 'Instrument of Accession' signed between Maharaja Bhodhachandra of Manipur and the Government of India on August 11, 1949 .
"We invalidate the Merger Agreement of September 21, 1949," he said.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is still unable to give a copy of the agreement of Instrument of Accession to the party till date, he lamented.
After Manipur was kept under its hegemony for 56 long years the British finally quit it, he mused over and accused the Government of India of subjugating the people of the State under the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 not long after the British departure.
