Yaikhomba Mutum wins Gates Cambridge Scholarship

Yaikhomba Mutum has been awarded Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
Yaikhomba Mutum is among the 90 new scholars who have been as Gates Cambridge Scholars after interviews in Cambridge in late March.
Yaikhomba Mutum, s/o Mutum Yaiskul Meitei, Special Secretary (Home) and Chingtham Nalini Devi of Keirao Bitra will be pursuing PhD in biological science at MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit of St John's College which is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge.
His project is to understanfd the mechanisms of active proton transport in Complex I, an enzyme involved in making energy rich ATP molecules whose dyfunction causes neuromuscular diseases which many are genetic and incurable.
Mutum is an alumnus of Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune.
Nearly 6,000 candidates from around the world had applied for the scholarship.
