Genetic ward mooted

Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai has stated that due initiatives would be launched to open a genetic ward or hospital to cater to healthcare requirements of elderly destitute people.
Mirabai made this statement during a State level , observation of the International Day for Older Persons at Patsoi Part II .
A large number of people : including elderly persons coming from different districts of the State attended the function.
The programme also featured a joint feast where the elderly persons were honoured by presenting simple gifts.
She asserted that it is the duty of every young men and women to look after their aged parents with love and care.
A special card which would give many benefits to people above 60 years of age who have limited sources of income would be distributed soon through District Social Welfare officers.
Altogether 20 old age homes have been opened for elderly persons who have no one to look after them or who do not feel comfortable at their homes.
Imphal West and Imphal East have four old age homes each, Thoubal has six, Bishnupur one, Senapati one, Churachandpur two and Tamenglong two.
Moreover, 18 day care centres for elderly persons have been opened, Mirabai said.
