"The reported attack on Mr.D.D.Thaisii, Minister on the 12th of November, 2011 near Maram Bazaar by unidentified assailants has come as a rude shock to the Naga people at this point in time when dialogue and rapprochement both within and without the Naga community is the pressing need of the hour," said the UNC's press communiqu.
Thaisii was attacked while on his way to his native village Purul in Senapati district on November 12 .
So far, no armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Naga body urged all armed groups to refrain from such act of violence and bloodshed which would only vitiate the sharp divides being witnessed in the state of Manipur and strongly appealed to seek resolution of any issue through peaceful means.
In the meantime, the UNC has asked the media to adhere to its ethic in reporting the ongoing blockade.
It has clarified that medical services and ambulances, transportation of life saving drugs, oxygen for operation, I.V fluids etc.
are exempted from the purview of the ongoing economic blockade.
It informed that the detail list of exempted services has been clearly notified in our press statement issued on August 21, 2011 .
Further, the UNC questioned the professional ethics of journalists and medical professionals while asking them not to indulge in cheap and communal propaganda.
"We request them not to play with the lives of the public and strongly urge those concerned to desist from such acts in the future," it stated.
