Truck torched, mishap kills truck driver

Imphal, November 15 2011:
While a truck driver was killed and his helper sustained injuries in a truck accident at Kambiron on Imphal-Jiribam highway, one truck was torched by suspected supporters of the UNC sponsored blockade at Senapati.
A police source informed that suspected blockade supporters torched a Shaktiman truck on Senapati-Sorbung road about 4 Kms away from Senapati Bazar at about 3.30 am today.
The truck (MN-05C/0685) was carrying diesel in jerrycans.
It is reported that the truck was burnt irretrievably.
On the other hand, an empty truck (AS-01PC/8517) heading for Jiribam fell into a gorge near Kambiron killing the driver and inflicting injuries on the handyman at around 7.30 last night.
The deceased driver has been identified as Mayengbam Amujao alias Surjit (28) of Uchiwa Mayai Leikai.
The injured handyman has been identified as Soram Manikhomba alias Kalamu (18) .
Meanwhile, 104 loaded trucks have left Jiribam for Imphal today with security escorts, reports our Jiribam correspondent.
The convoy included 32 petrol tankers, 42 diesel tankers and 24 LPG bullet tankers.
The tankers are expected to arrive here tomorrow morning, said CAF & PD Minister N Biren.
Another 500 loaded trucks are currently halted at Jiribam.
In view of the UNC's blockade, trucks have been moving in convoys with security escorts.
