Man rescued, one abductor gunned down by Thoubal commandos

Thoubal district police commandos gunned down an unidentified militant and managed to rescue a man who was abducted by a group of militants after an encounter at Iroi Lok, Andro in Thoubal district in the wee hours today.
On November 14 afternoon, Thoubal police received a specific information that some unidentified militants kidnapped one individual, namely Wahengbam Bishworjit Singh alias Thambou, 28 s/o Amu Singh of Leimapokpam Makha leikai, Bishnupur distict from Angtha area in the district November 13 .
Acting on the tip, a team of commandos under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police (operations), Thoubal and Officer-in-charge (Commando), Thoubal mobilized to conduct search operations in the suspected areas to rescue the abducted person, Thoubal Superintendent of Police, K.Jayenta told mediapersons at a press briefing Tuesday.
The security team conducted raids in various suspected hideouts at Yairipok, Yambem, and Andro areas yesterday, Jayenta said, adding that intelligence input revealed that the unknown militants along with their captive were present somewhere around Andro Iroi Lok area.
Immediately the team moved towards the area and laid an ambush at around 3 am that resulted in a gun battle which lasted about 25 minutes.
The incident happened when the commando team on seeing the movement of unidentified persons on the western side of Iroi Lok asked them to stop and identify themselves but instead they opened fire towards the commando team, the SP said and added that the team also retaliated and a firefight ensued and the unidentified youths managed to escape towards the western side by taking advantage of the terrain and darkness.
He said after the gunfight stopped, a thorough search of the areas was carried out and found one unidentified male dead body and another person hiding inside the bushes and he was identified as Wahengbam Bishworjit Singh alias Thambou s/o Amu, a resident of Leimapokpam Makha Leikai who was kidnapped by the unidentified militants from Yairipok Angtha.
One .32 bore pistol with magazine, two .32 live rounds in the magazine, one .32 live round in the chamber, one .32 empty case, one hand grenade, one dual Sim mobile handset (Maxx) with one Airtel Sim and one Reliance Sim, one black leather wallet containing Rs.165 and 15 AK Rifle empty cases were recovered from near the dead body, Jayanta said.
A case in connection with the incident has been registered at Yairipok police station for further investigation, the police officer added.
