Driver killed in mishap on NH 37

Imphal, November 15 2011:
One truck driver was killed while a handyman of night super bus lost his leg in two separate road related accidents that took place during the last 24 hours in different parts of the state.
In the first incident which occurred at around 8 pm yesterday, the driver of an empty Tata Truck (AS01DC/8517) heading toward Jiribam along National Highway 37 lost control and drove the truck into a gorge around 100 metre deep while trying to overtake a truck.
The driver was rushed to the hospital for treatment in a critical condition.
But he succumbed to the injuries later on.
The handyman of the ill-fated truck also sustained injuries in the incident.
The deceased truck driver has been identified as Mayanglangbam Amuchou (28) s/o M Kheba of Uchiwa Mayai Leikai while the injured handyman as Soibam Manikhomba (18) s/o S Tomba of Kumbi Tera Kha Awang Leikai.
The injured handyman has been admitted to Jiribam Community Hall for treatment and the body of the deceased truck driver has been handed over to his family members after post-mortem at RIMS today.
On the other hand, the handyman of a night super bus plying between Imphal and Guwahati lost his right leg when his own bus ran over his leg at around 12.30 pm yesterday.
The handyman has been identified as Chongkhai Gangmei (15) of Noney Part-IV.
He was immediately rushed to JNIMS where the doctors advised amputation of the leg.
The amputated leg had been handed over to his family members for performing necessary customary burial but the same was reportedly found abandoned by early morning walkers near Telipati today.
Police have picked up the amputated leg and deposited in the mortuary of JNIMS again.
Meanwhile, driver of a Dipper truck was found dead inside the driver's cabin at Lamphel Super Market at around 6.30 am today.
The identity of the deceased driver has established as Thokchom Shanta (32) s/o Th Tomba of Thoubal Leishangthem Thoudam.
It is suspected that he may have died from heart attack.
