Imphal, October 09 2014:
Irked by the statement of Chief Minister O Ibobi that Governor has been urged not to give consent to Shri Govindajee Temple (Third Amendment) Bill, 2014 taking into account of intense criticism of the bill from various sections, Th Chaoba, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh has demanded the CM to tender an apology before the public over the enactment of the bill.
He was attending a public meeting at Hiyanglam today held in connection with the ensuing Hiyanglam by-election scheduled to be held on October 17 .
Chaoba said that the ruling of the bill which states that concerned individuals who are willing to perform Umang Lai Haraoba should take permission from pandit loisangs under Govindajee Temple Board is unacceptable as any external body cannot interfere in the ritual performance of Umang Lai Haraoba.
The bill was passed in the Legislative Assembly without threadbare discussion and now the CM has ironically urged the Governor not to give approval to the bill.
Since the bill cannot be taken as valid, the CM should apologize before the public, he added.
Saying that the Hiyanglam Constituency which falls under Thoubal district is one of the backward Constituencies of the State with deplorable roads and bridges apart from poor supply of potable water, Chaoba slammed the CM for failing to develop the area which is the home Constituency of the CM himself.
Ex-MLA Salam Joy; Malesh, president of Bharatiya Yuva Morcha Manipur and AR Khan, retd IAS were also present during the public meeting which was organized by BJP Manipur Pradesh.
