Imphal, September 08 2018:
Consumer Affairs & Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam has stated that he will exert strong pressure to the Government to make the eye bank opened through JN Hospital fully cater its benefits to the public.
He was speaking as the chief guest in the closing ceremony of Fortnight Eye Donation Campaign organized by Samadrishti, Kshamata Vikas Evam Anusandhan Mandal (SAKSHAM) at Manipur Press Club today.
Expressing deep concern over the poor state of the eye bank in providing its services, the Minister said that he will take up the matter in Cabinet meeting apart from consulting the CM and concerned Minister.
The Government is committed towards serving the people, he said.
"There is emergence of a different trend.
People have become very self-centric," he lamented and added that this trend need to be eliminated from the society in order to lift one another.
The State will progress and develop only when every member in the society, including the Government functionaries execute their own responsibilities, he said.
Panthoibi Housing Finance Company Private Limited Chairman cum Managing Director Thokchom Hemo Singh underscored the role of healthcare and education systems in the growth and development of a society.
He pointed out that there is an urgent need of improving the conditions of Government schools and hospitals to serve people better.
"Public too have responsibilities towards development and growth of the State.
It would be wrong if people blame Government for every sort of failures," Hemo said.
SAKSHAM president Sapam Jashobanta also attended the function as president.
The fortnight eye donation campaign started from August 25 with series of awareness campaigns at various schools and institutions.
