Trekkers remanded

Eight trekkers from Manipur, including two girls, on a trekking trip to Dzuko valley as a part of the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival, who were arrested by Nagaland police were produced before CJM Court, Kohima today and remanded to police custody.
According to information received from Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association (MMTA), the trekkers were produced before the CJM Kohima and remanded to 2 days in police custody.
The trekkers, who had ventured into Nagaland side to escape a forest fire, were detained by Southern Angami Youth Organisation first, before they were rescued by police.
They were arrested after Khujuma police filed a case in connection with the incident.
The source claimed that the State Government has not given any response to MMTA till date and added that an emergency meeting will be held tomorrow in connection with the issue.
It may be mentioned that MMTA had appealed to the authority concerned to release the trekkers within 24 hours.
