Trainings on organic farming

Under the National Project of Organic Farming, Regional Centre of Organic Farming, Imphal, a sub-ordinate office of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, a series of two-day long training on organic farming was conducted on Aug 9-10 and Aug 11-12 at the Assembly Hall of Central Agriculture University (CAU), Iroisemba.
These training programmes were inaugurated by Dean of CAU Prof N Iboton Singh, who in his speeches, highlighted the ill effects of green revolution but stressed on another green revolution through organic farming.
He said that after the green revolution, food grain production may have been increased by several folds but the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides also increased several times causing a serious threat to human health, so there is no other alternative except to adopt organic farming for another green revolution.
The trainings were imparted by JB Karmakar of the Reghional Centre of Organic Farming, Imphal with Associate Professor Dr Edwin, HoD (Agro) Prof Dr Nabachandra, Associate Professor Dr Sumarjit, Associate Professor of College of Agriculture (Imphal) Dr Kh Ibohal and Himmat of Green Foundation, Imphal
as resource persons.
During the course of the trainings, Himmat informed the participants that 22 crops have been certified for organic farming in Manipur.
The training series concluded on August 12 during which Prof N Ibohton and Dr Kunjaraj Singh, HoD (Extn) presented certificates to the participants.
