Imphal, May 14 2021:
Former MLA of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa assembly constituency and executive member of BJP Manipur Pradesh RK Anand has called for carrying out mass testing to break the chain of transmission of Covid-19 and stressed that the state government should pay urgent attention towards preventing further aggravation of the crisis situation.
On Friday, Anand visited a Covid testing site at Meitram Lai Haraofam community hall, where over 300 residents of Meitram, Kodom-pokpi, Lairenjam and Malom were examined for Covid-19 through the RAT.
The testing programme was organised with support of the former MLA and hosted by Meitram Covid-19 Task Force, which has been jointly formed by Beneficial Club Meitram, Rising Committee and local Meira Paibi organisations.
A total of 20 positive cases were detected during the test.
Interacting with media, Anand said that the test was organised considering the urgent need for identifying Covid positive cases in the locality following recent detection of positive cases from among the local population.
He also conveyed gratitude to top officials of health department, CMO Imphal West and DC Imphal West for their cooperation and providing man-power and material support.
Similar testing programmes have been conducted three times at Malom and once at Lairenjam Makha Laibung, he said.
Observing that swift contact tracing and mass testing can help in breaking the transmission chain, he appealed to the public to get themselves tested.
While urging those with negative results to strictly follow the SOPs, RK Anand also wished speedy recovery to the positive cases detected during the test.
Later, RK Anand also distributed food items to families inside containment zones in Kwakeithel Akham Leikai.
