No relief to rape victim

Imphal, March 12 2015:
Rongmei Lu Phaum (RLP), Centre for Research and Advocacy (CRAM) and victim's family on Wednesday strongly condemned the inordinate delay and non-compliance of the Government of Manipur in providing interim relief to a minor rape victim.
According a joint statement issued by RLP president, Panti Gonmei, CRAM president Sanaton Laishram and the grandmother of the rape victim, on July 17, 2014, session judge, Imphal East directed the State Government to give Rs 25,000 to the minor rape victim.
The accused in the rape case are one Ashang Shimray of Deulahland, Imphal and one of his friends named Aboi Shimray of Nagaram.
The allegedly committed the crime on January 1, 2014 .
The statement sought support from all the concerned authorities in taking steps to deliver justice to the victim and also to all victims of sexual violence in Manipur.
It further appealed to the Child Welfare Committee, Social Welfare Department, Manipur and the Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East to take serious and necessary actions to ensure justice to the victim.
