Heisnam (o) Ayingbi has sought justice and support for her husband who was crippled in an accident.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Ayingbi claimed that her husband Heisnam Khongnem (41), a labourer from Patsoi Part 3, was struck by a Honda Activa driven by one Mutum Shanti Kumar, an 8th MR constable from Yurembam Awang Leikai, at around 6 pm of April 1 .
The victim was rushed to RIMS and then to Shija Hospital where he was kept in the ICU for eight days.
Ayingbi said that Shanti Kumar did not even show up to enquire about her husband's condition and instead anonymously deposited a sum of Rs 30,000 at Shija Hospital counter for the victim's treatment.
She said that when she confronted him about the low compensation, Shantikumar tried to reach a settlement by paying an extra sum of Rs 40,000 and told her to take up a Court case if she desired 'more.
She had to sell their land to try and pay for her husband's treatment but as their family is not economically well off her husband had to be brought back home.
Ayingbi said that her husband suffered brain damage as a result of the accident and is now staying at one of the rehabilitation centres of Patsoi Part 1 .
She appealed to all the clubs and organisations of the State for help and support regarding the matter and also appealed to the authority concerned to take up necessary action.
She claimed that a complaint has already been lodged at Patsoi police station but no tangible work has been taken up by the authorities till now.
