Biswajit promises total electrification by Dec 2018

Power Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh who is attending a two-day State Power Ministers' Conference at the Convention hall, Ashok Hotel in New Delhi has pledged that all un-electrified villages in Manipur would be electrified by December 2018 and all the construction works of transmitters in the State would also be completed by December 2018 .
Manipur has 85 un-electri-fied villages out of 4141 unelectrified villages in the country.
The Power Minister and Chief Secretary O Nabakishore Singh are attending the two-day conference which began today.
The conference reviewed works done by State Governments/ Union Territories in the last six months in such sectors as power, coal, renewable energy and mining.
The conference was chaired by Union Minister of Power Piyush Goyal.
Biswajit said that the conference was intended to forge new policies for achieving the goal of providing 24x7 quality and affordable power to all within the stipulated time in the spirit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'New India' .
He said that 70 per cent subsidy is available for Solar Photovoltaic lights (SPV) as per the guidelines of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) with a view to promoting solar energy projects in the State.
He appealed to the public to opt for grid-connected rooftop solar panels/power plant which would be benefited with up to 70 per cent subsidy and the surplus power would also be sold.
Th Biswajit also stated that the Centre agreed to open a Mega Solar Park in Manipur.
He said, "Solar Park is a concentrated zone of solar power generation projects and provides developers an area that is well equipped with proper infrastructure and access to amenities and where the risk of the projects can be minimized" .
He expressed that the mining resources available in Manipur were not yet explored properly and it was the time to explore it.
