Disqualification sought

Imphal, November 28 2018:
Five sitting Congress MLAs have submitted a written appeal to the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly to disqualify five MLAs who won the 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election through the Indian National Congress ticket yet backed B JP in forming the State Government, under the 10th Schedule of the Anti Defection Law.
The MLAs against whom the application was submitted include Singhat AC MLA Ginsuanhau Zou, Lamlai AC MLA Kshetrimayum Biren, Kumbi AC MLA S Bira, Saitu AC MLA Ngamthang Haokip and Wangjing Tentha AC MLA Paonam Brojen.
They all won the Assembly election on the Congress ticket before defecting to the BJP.
Even though they defected to the BJP and openly support the party, they are still sitting on the Opposition bench in the Assembly.
Khangabok AC MLA Surjakumar Okram, Wangkhei AC Okram Henry, Thangmeiband AC MLA Khumukcham Joykisan, Wangkhem AC MLA Keisham Meghachandra and Bishnupur AC MLA Govindas Konthoujam submitted the application before the Assembly Speaker today.
It may be mentioned that a similar appeal for disqualification was submitted against Kakching AC MLA Y Surchandra and Wangoi AC MLA O Lukhoi, on November 8 .
