Wangjing river breaches; submerges paddy fields

Incessant rains in the State during the last couple of days have submerged many houses and more than 500 hacters of paddy fields at Samaram Loukon by overflowed water from the Wangjing river.
According to reports, Wangjing river was breached at 2 am near Lamding and Sangaiyumpham.
Villagers of Sangaiyumpham andTentha started fleeing their homes fearing a flash flood.
People of Tentha, Khangabok and Sangaiyumpham also witnessed the submergence of their paddy fields.
Villagers said that the water level of Wangjing river suddenly swollen on Tuesday afternoon and started overflowing.
Meanwhile, ex-adhakshya of Thoubal Zila Parishad, Atao Rahaman , nominee of Sangaiyumpham Pt-I Pradhan, Azad Khan, ex-minister of Wangjing Tentha Kendra, M Hemanta and Youth Co-Ordinator of Khangabok Block Congress, Okram Surjakumar @ Kenedy tried to control the flood-like situation by using JCB and trucks since morning.
The locals with the help of clubs and organizations were handling the situation.
But if the Govt fails to respond at the earliest, more houses and paddy fields are likely to be submerged under water, said Atao Rahaman.
