Tumour removal surgeries possible at Surgical Oncology Department, Raj Medicity, says Haobijam Rajen

With the opening of a Surgical Oncology Department at Raj Medicity, it has been possible to treat patients suffering from cancer by successfully conducting challenging tumour removal surgeries.
Director Haobijam Rajen, Managing Director of the multi-specialty hospital, made the statement at a press conference held at the conference hall of the hospital today.
He said that the Surgical Oncology Department was established in June this year with Surgical Oncologist Dr Lourembam Sunil as the consultant and with the establishment of the Department, the cancer care service has advanced rapidly.
Many people, not only from Manipur but from otner States as well as from Myanmar have been treated at the Department, he said adding that the hospital has already linked with Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) and Prime Minister Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY) and provided the necessary benefits under the said schemes to numerous patients and poor people.
6 special beds have been reserved for CMHT (which gives benefits of upto Rs 2 lakh) and PMJAY (which provides benefits of upto Rs 5 lakh).
Arrangements are also made to treat the beneficiaries at other wards in case the space runs out, the MD added.
He continued that before the introduction of the two schemes, only Government employees used to get medical reimbursement opportunities and added that ever since the arrival of CMHT and PMJAY, the Health Department seems to be intelligently handling the processes of the schemes.
Pointing out that the two schemes are like boons for the people of Manipur, Haobijam Rajen said that the two schemes will be able to cover around 75 percent of the total population of Manipur.
Replying to a query, Rajen said that tourists who come to see the ongoing Sangai Festival will be given 20 percent discount when it comes to any medical care.
On the other hand, the MD also announced that the medical fees for a.Myanmar National whose tumourwas successfully removed as well as a patient from Serou whose voice box (larynx) was removed (and an implant was conducted to make it possible for the patient to speak), will be waived off.
Speaking to media persons, Dr Lourembam Sunil said that Raj Medicity has proper facilities like ICU back up, operation theatre facilities, proper doctors and paramedical staff; apart from being able to conduct various specialised surgeries/operations.
The hospital has conducted surgeries like composite resection of oral cavity tumour along with reconstruction, excision of retroperitoneal sarcoma, resection of rectal and colonic cancer, resection of gastric cancer and excision of post styloin parapharynxgeal tumour.
A patient called Win Myint Aung from Myanmar was recently treated successfully for a tumour at the 3rd part of duodenum with pancreatic involvement, the doctor said explaining that the tumour involved an extremely challenging surgery to be removed.

in-, dividual called Nipin Roy of Serou had his voice box and implantation of voice prostheses to restore his speech, he explained adding that now, the people of Manipur have a chance to fight cancer without going outside the State and wasting large amount of money.
