CCpur CSOs push alarm buttons on International Day against drug abuse

CCpur, June 26 2018:
Philanthropic organisations of Churachandpur today held a joint-mass-rally to observe the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, calling on the young and old alike to fight the pests of abusive substances in the district.
The rally began at Tuibong Peace ground under the aegis of a committee set up solely for the purpose by 10 different philanthropic organisations, and concluded at Lamka Public Ground with drugs worth about Rs 13 lakh that have been seized by the philanthropic organisations over the months set on fire.
A brief public meeting held at the public ground with several leaders from the Church as well as from the CSOs dwelt on the need for urgent and concerted efforts to fight and save the district from the menace of drug abuse.
T Khailianthang, the committee convenor highlighted the rampant use of drugs particularly by the youth in the district and called on all to do their bit to fight the menace.
Co-convenor Letzamang Haokip deliberated on the lure of the abusive drugs, WY in particular, saying the days before it enters each and every household is numbered.
He also highlighted the efforts taken up by several CSOs to stop the inflow of such substance from Moreh, Behiang and Sajik Tampak.
The rallyists wound up their campaign with a joint declaration that was tabled by Dongchinthang, the president of SYO, wherein it proclaimed the district as no drug zone; pledged their commitment to fight the use and trafficking of any illicit drug in the district and for the punishment of any offender.
