Hanjabam Naoba wins silver at Aquatic Nationals

Imphal, June 26 2018:
A day after Hiran Sagolshem won a bronze medal in the Group II 50 m freestyle event, Hanjabam Naoba Sharma today fetched a silver medal for Manipur at the 35th Glenmark Sub-Junior National and 45th Junior National Aquatic Championship 2018 being organised under the auspices of Swimming Federation of India at Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune, Maharashtra.
Hanjabam Naoba Sharma, son of H Rishikesh Sharma and H Ongbi Shila Devi from Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal fetched the silver medal in the Boys' Group VI 50 m Breaststroke event for a time of 41.26 seconds.
Meanwhile, three divers from Manipur representing SSCB in the championship managed to win 6 gold and 1 bronze medals.
Ningthoujam Willson Singh fetched three gold medals in the Boys Group I High Board (381.05 points), 3 Meter Spring Board (376.40 points) and 1 Meter Spring Board (352 points) events.
16 years old Willson is a resident of Kongba Nandeibam Leikai and born to N Bhorot and N (O) Anita Devi.
Yumnam Premson Singh of SSCB bagged the other 3 gold medals in the boys Group III (age: 12/13) diving events.
Premson scored 227.65 points to win the gold medal in the High Board event while he secured 274.55 points and 300.90 points respectively in the 3 Meter and 1 Meter Spring Board events to clinch the gold medals.
Premson was born to Yumnam Inao Singh and Yumnam (O) Landhoni Devi of Pangei Waiton Maning Leikai.
Thoudam Nelson Singh claimed a bronze medal in the boys Group III High Board event with a score of 178.50 points.
Nelson hails from Luwangsangbam Chini Godam Mayai Leikai and was born to Th Goutam Singh and Th (O) Naobi Devi.
Laishram Dexter, son of L Chaoba Singh and L (O) Bina Devi of Yurembam Mamang Leikai, who is also representing SSCB came too close to win a bronze in the boys Group III 1 Meter Spring Board event but finished fourth with a score of 206.65 points.
They are being trained under diving chief coach M Kunjakishor Meitei of Taothong Khunou, Lamsang at Army Sports Institute, Pune.
