AR observes International Day against Drug Abuse and Elicit Trafficking

Imphal, June 26 2018: International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed across the units of IGAR (South) today with an aim to generate awareness among the people about the malice and ill effects of abusing drugs on the health of an individual and the society at large and commitment of Assam Rifles to the cause of making Manipur a drug free State.

Lectures on the topic were conducted by the Company Operating Bases (COBs) of 9 Sector Assam Rifles at various schools and villages of Yairipok, Chandrakhong, Upper Khoiripok and at Thoubal district by Phundrei Battalion.

The locals were exhorted to be vigilant about the drug peddlers and abusers, in efforts to curb the menace which weakens the social fabric of the populace.

A peaceful procession march by approximately 300 students of Khuman Maheikol School, Sur Rashi Elite School, CT Higher Secondary School and N Tomciou Higher Secondary School was also organised by Mayang Imphal Company Operating Base of Tulihal Batallion.

On the other hand, as part of Shangshak Drug Awareness Campaign, various events were conducted by Shangshak Battalion of 10 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of IGAR (South) in the areas of Shangshak, Sagolmang, Litan and Mahadev Camp, Ukhrul district The Campaign was planned with an aim to curb the growing trend of drug abuse in the region.

It also addressed the most vulnerable group consisting of youth and students.

Support of women and elders was incorporated to highlight the ill effects of drug abuse while posters and pamphlets were distributed to youth clubs and students of the region.

In addition, lecture on drug abuse was conducted at Sagolmang which was attended by more than 100 villagers.

A students' awareness march was conducted at Shangshak, Litan, Mahadev Camp and New Heaven to further raise awareness against the menace.

Chandel Batallion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles organised an awareness programme at Assam Rifles Public School, Pallet for spreading consciousness regarding drug abuse and its illicit trafficking amongst students.

46 students along with nine teachers attended the programme.

The people who participated in the programme took pledged to make impenetrable barrier against drug abuse.

The event included a lecture from Manihar Singh, Principal, ARPS, Pallel.

On the other hand, Tengnoupal district police along 11 AR and different CSOs in Moreh organised a rally where a number of Students participated.

The rally began ftom Moreh Police IB and wrapped up at Ima Kondong Lairembi Haraobung, after taking out the rally at different areas of Moreh.

The rally was followed by an awareness programme at the Haraobung.

Tengnoupal SP Dr Ibomcha, 11 AR Moreh CO RS Rawat, ADC member Chinneivah and leaders of different CSOs attended.

The people expressed their gratitude towards the Assam Rifles for having organised the awareness drive for the betterment of the society.
