Christmas shoppers stranded in bandh

The indefinite general strike imposed by Film Forum of Manipur (FFM) in the state against the recent molestation of film actress by an NSCN (IM) cadre during a musical concert at Chandel district headquarters has by and large affected Christmas shoppers from the hill districts.
On Saturday, FFM with the support of various social organizations announced an indefinite bandh in the whole state in a bid to mount pressure on the State government to nab and punish the culprit.
The hill districts, however, remained unaffected by the bandh.
On account of the bandh which was announced suddenly last evening, many Christmas shoppers and students coming from outside the state have been stranded at Imphal.
In a recent concert held at Chandel district headquarters, NSCN (IM) Lt.Col Livingstone Anal allegedly molested film actress Momoko in a green room in presence of her mother.
On the last day of winter Assembly on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam had assured the august House of punishing the culprit and said that a security team have been organised to make the arrest.
In spite of this, FFM went ahead with the indefinite bandh, thus affecting the Christmas shoppers from the hills.
As the bandh was so sudden, many Christmas shoppers were stranded in Imphal with the all the transport services staying off the roads.
The bandh supporters went around the streets burning tyres and dispersing commuters gathered at various stations and market places.
All business etsablishments down their shutters and government offices remained shut today.
