Tamenglong DC appeals for free and fair polls

Tamenglong, March 15 2014 : Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong C Arthur W has appealed to the people of Tamenglong district to exercise their franchise responsibly in the coming Lok Sabha polls without any influence of money and muscle power.

He was speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of a Health Mela in Tamenglong district today.

"Think carefully while choosing your representatives.

Cast your votes in free and fair manner", C Arthur said.

He further said that many specialist doctors have been invited from Imphal for the purpose of organizing the Health Mela in Tamenglong.

"This Health Mela is for the people of this district.

Come and avail the facility till tomorrow", the Deputy Commissioner said.

The Health Mela is being organised by the District Health Mission Society Tamenglong at Christian Model English Higher Secondary School.

Col..VVidyashanker, Commandant of 13-Assam Rifles and Dr Chambo Gonmei, Chief Medical Officer Tamenglong also attended the inaugural function as Guest of Honour and President respectively.

In his presidential speech, Dr Chambo Gonmei said that the Health Mela aims to provide free health facility to unreached remote villages of Tamenglong district.

He also mentioned the need to have specialist doctors at the District Hospital, Tamenglong and the need to have full functional operation theatre (OT) as well as blood bank at the district hospital.

As many as 21 stalls including one stall of 13-Assam Rifles are being opened in the Health Mela.

The first day of the Health Mela witnessed a huge turnout of people.

As many as 1300 patients came to avail the medical facilities of the Health Mela today.

As part of the Health Mela, operations are also being conducted at the District Hospital, Tamenglong.

Around 20 patients have been screened as major cases while 28 patients as minor cases.

The operation would continue till tomorrow.

Free blood and urine test, free x-ray examination, free health check-up, free medicine, talk on various diseases, skit and talent display by ASHAs, health education etc.
