Education (S) officials found involved in fraud case

Volunteers of MEELAL have rounded up a person who deceitfully extracted money from Meetei Mayek teachers assigned to teach Meetei Mayek in different schools in connivance with officials of Department of Education (S), Government of Manpur.
The person has been identified as one Konthoujam Brojendro (39), s/o K Tomba of Konthoujam Mamang Leikai.
He was paraded before media persons at the office of MEELAL here today.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, Sadokpam Tomba, President of MEELAL, said that MEELAL has not accepted any money from individuals while assigning Meetei Mayek teachers in different schools of the State in cooperation with the Education Department.
He informed that Gopimohan, Zonal Education Officer/Zone 4 (B) had passed an order on May 24, 2012 calling for voluntary service from nine Meetei Mayek teachers for teaching the script in nine different schools of the State.
Among the nine persons selected for the purpose, one Engen, a Dealing Assistant in the office of the ZEO, Khuyathong collected an amount of Rs 82,000 from five teachers and paid around Rs 4000 to Konthoujam Brojendro for bringing in the said teachers.
The Meetei Mayek teachers from whom the said amounts have been extracted are Nongmaithem Sunita (Rs 20,000), Chandam Roma (Rs 20,000), Senjam Mala (Rs 20,000), Ningthoujam Purnima (Rs 12,000) and Ganishwar Rongmei (Rs 12,000), Tomba said, while asking that the amounts taken from the teachers should be brought to the office of MEELAL by February 23 for handing it over to the respective teachers.
