Imphal, January 11 2015:
While pointedly alleging that corrupt candidates and MLAs considered public as a commodities which could be purchased, Dr M Nara, secretary of CPI, Manipur State Unit pointed out that the present electoral system is based on money power and that this fact has to be understood by the public.
Dr M Nara was speaking as the chief guest at the 42nd Local Conference of CPI, Kumbi Local Council held at Kumbi Terakha Meeitei Sganglen in Bishnupur district on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Nara said that politics should be focused for the public as every citizen of the country had the right to vote to elect the representatives of their choice.
He asserted that politics and society share a close relationship and that it is pivotal to elect competent representatives to maintain stability in the country.
In the absence of CPI representatives in the State Assembly, sittings of the House are incomplete.
Moreover, due to the failure of other political parties to put up agendas, sittings of the House do not last more than 40-50 minutes, he said.
Alleging that the Congress party has apparently failed to bring collective growth in the State despite ruling for the last many years, Dr Nara said that the unabated 'unwanted' incidents of murders, rapes, killings etc were a clear indication of bad governance in the State.
He also said that the State is witnessing worst form of governance besides deep-rooted corruption under the Congress regime.
An 18-point resolution was unanimously adopted during the conference which was also attended by Comrade Mangi and members of Manipur Loumee Lup.
A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls of comrades of the party.
