Dr Irungbam Deven honored with 2nd HL Literature Award 2014

Noted writer Dr Irungbam Deven was honoured with the 2nd Hueiyen Lanpao Literary Award 2014 by Hueiyen Lanpao Group of Publications for his book of poems titled 'Numit Ama, Punsi Ama' during a solemn function held at the Literary Hall of the daily at Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai on Sunday.
The award which carries a cash prize of Rs 10,000, citation along with a shawl was presented to Dr.Irungbam Deven by Dr Polem Nabachandra, president of Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti.
Speaking on the occasion, B Jayantakumar Sharma, chairman of Hueiyen Lanpao Columnist Forum who presided over the award function said that literature which is conceived by minds is abstracted from the spoken languages.
He pointed out that literature is also an important asset of the society and newspapers played a role in spreading the reach of literary works.
Sharma also asserted that there is no room for manipulation in recognizing the values of literature.
Noting that society will flourish only when literature is developed, he said that even the government has already stared presenting State Literature Award acknowledging the importance of the contributions made by literature.
He lauded the initiative taken by Hueiyen Lanpao Group of Publications by presenting Hueiyen Lanpao Literature Award to writers in recognition of their writings and contributions to society.
'Numit Ama, Punsi Ama' authored by Dr Irungbam Deven is one of the noted books of poems published during 2009 and 2014.The writer despite of his preoccupation with his medical profession showed his adept understanding of society with commendable flair, Sharma maintained.
Exuding confidence that the writer would come up with such books in future, he acknowledged that many writers in the State have been working for the consolidation of literature which is the mirror of the society.
The chief guest of the award function, Dr Polem Nabachandra said that skillful use of languages was instrumental for furthering the cause of literature and added that writers and readers should embark on the journey hand and hand.
Dr Polem Nabachandra said there was no guarantee that those who pursued literature as a subject would become writers in future as writers had their own unique personalities which cannot be attained simply by studying the subject.
Delivering the key note address on the occasion, noted writer Birendrajit Naorem reminded that the 1st Hueiyen Lanpao Litarature Award was presented to Longjam Joychandra for his critical book titled 'Manipuri Sahitya' .
He lauded the Hueiyen Lanpao Group of Publications for showing immense respect to writers of the State.
Pointing out that encouragement and recognition of writers are necessary to further encourage the development of literature in the State, Birendrajit Naorem assured that necessary steps to avail rare books written by noted writers of the State have been taken.
He announced that the 3rd Hueiyen Lanpao Litarary Award would be presented in future by selecting a book amongst the categories of short stories, novel, travelogue,
songs etc.
Dr Irungbam Deven while delivering an emotionally engaged speech stated that most of the time he had to follow a tight schedule as he was engaged in the profession of teaching MBBS students.
Though disentangling himself from his primary profession was difficult, he has to look for free time for engaging with the profession of creative writing particularly poems.
Dr Irungbam Deven expressed gratitude for taking cognizance of his works by honouring him with the 2nd Hueiyen Lanpao Literature Award.
Young folk singer Mangka Mayanglambam and company enthralled the gathering with her scintillating performance of 'Moirang Sai' during the programme which was conducted by actor and writer Narendra Ningomba.
