Seminar of chiefs stresses on saving trees

A seminar of chiefs on forests, environments, climate changes and livelihood was held today at FEEDS Auditorium, Hengbung in Kangpokpi district.
Lalmani (MCS) Project Director of DRDA, who is also the Addl District Magistrate, Senapati District graced the seminar as chief guest while Dr SK Vettivel, Dr AKS Rawat, Director, EMRC Hengbung, Dr Thokchom Dhanaraj, Sr Scientist and Dr Sunil Marpa, Scientist, NMHS/SBG attended as resource persons.
Haokholet Kipgen, President, FEEDS Hengbung delivered the keynote address before the presentation given by experts during the inaugural session while the second session mainly emphasized on interaction with the chiefs of village.
Around 70 chiefs from different villages across Kangpokpi and Senapati districts attended the event.
Apart from many other important issues, importance of saving trees and its associated problems, link between tress and livelihood, models to save trees and improving livelihood were also stressed and during the seminar and further agreed on a board Agro-Forestry.
Stressing on the vital role of every individual and more particularly the village chiefs, in preserving forests and environment so as to control climate change, Dr SK Vettivel said that people are aware of the problems and often tend to live with it but have little knowledge about the solutions to the problems.
"Experts are those who know the solutions, not the problems", he said while adding that such seminar of FEEDS will sensitize the people on how to live with solutions, rather than problems.
