Imphal, April 25 2011:
By May 2, vendors will not be allowed to occupy any space on the streets in Imphal city areas, particularly in the crowded bazar area.
A decision to implement a strict norm of the government to reduce traffic congestion in the city area has been approved by a meeting of the Cabinet held this evening.
An official source said that authority had already provided seats for licenced vendors at the temporary market shed at the erstwhile Old District Hospital.
Despite this, most of the vendors are still occupying spaces in the said bazar area.
Space for remaining vendors will be provided at the Lamphel shopping complex, the source said.
With the decision to prevent them occupying space on the streets, the government will introduce a regulation for parking of vehicles in the bazar areas.
Under the norm, no vehicles of any kind will be allowed to be parked on the roadsides at Paona bazar, BT Road and Thangal bazar.
All vehicles can park on the stretch of Nagamapal road and at parking places developed after dismantling the temporary market shed.
The cabinet meeting held under the chair of the Chief Minister also approved the appointment of the son of murdered BSEM chairman N Kunjabihari, Hemchandra as ASI in the police department.
Approval to the proposal of widening of Dingku Road from Khongnanganikarak to Lamlong to make it 100 feet wide and appointment of three account officers in the PWD was also approved by the cabinet today, the source said.
