Imphal, March 22 2014 :
In Manipur where constant supply or possession of cooking gas (LPG) cannot be ensured owing to various forms of agitation particularly prolonged road blockades and electric-powered rice cookers remain idle due to miserable power supply situation, indigenously developed husk burner is gradually becoming one of the most preferred kitchen appliances in the State.
having developed and successfully marketed over 5000 paddy-husk burners known in the local parlance as 'wainam', 37 years old Maibam Nandakumar of Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai told The Sangai Express that he would soon be marketing a more efficient and environmentally friendly cooking device christened Green Wainam Continuous System in the coming months.
Even though development process is already underway availability of the indigenously developed stove has to be delayed as the quantum of production should commensurate the market demand, he confided referring to possible huge demand his latest invention is likely to generate.

Noting acute shortage of power crippling electric-powered kitchen appliances in Manipur and problems related to acquisition of cooking gas on a regular basis, Nandakumar said his 28x12 inch husk burner would be a highly demanded item when it reaches the market as 40 minutes of constant flame would be ensured with only about 800 grams of husk.
The users will not need to fan the flame as the device will have in-built battery powered fan and can support 10 kg load, he explained.
The size and number of burners may vary according to choice of individual buyers, Nandakumar said adding that the device is mainly made from steel plain sheet folded or compressed into circular form to provide maximum heat to the cooking utensils.
