Imphal, January 22 2017:
The All Manipur Students Union has condemned the increase of auto fares which has created complications to passengers including students, conveyed a press release issued by Information of publicity secretary of the student body .
Even though the Transporters and Drivers Council has announced earlier not to increase passengers' fare, some passenger vehicles taking advantage of the UNC's indefinite economic blockade have hiked the travel fare by 50 percente.
Hiking travel fares indirectly leads to increase in prices of essential commodities, it said.
Alleging the Transport Department of turning a blind eye , AMSU stated that the prevailing matter could have been avoided if the department had taken up proper action at the right time.
The guidelines and mode of fare given to the inter State passenger service vehicles by the Transport Department should be announced to the public, AMSU asserted.
AMSU stated that the Transport Department should stop the increase in fare and revoke the permit of the transporters who disobey.
The Transport Department is not fit to operate if the matters are not checked, it added.
A group meeting with AMSU, transporters association of the passengers vehicles (bus, autos, winger, Tata-Magic), will be held on January 27 at 11 am in the premise of AMSU Mayai Loishang.
