Imphal, July 19 2018:
Socialist Students of Manipur (SSUM) and Socialist Women Association (SWA) have appealed to the people to take part in a mass rally towards the State Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Assembly against the failure of the State Government to perform its duty regarding the border issue before the arrival of the Indian survey team.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, president of SSUM, N Sanchal, demanded the State Government to ascertain the ground realities of the Indo-Myanmar harder dispute during the Assembly session before the survey team reaches Manipur.
The 60 MLAs present in the State Assembly must accept the presence of land dispute between Manipur and Myanmar.
If the said MLAs fail to take up any positive steps before the Indian survey team reaches Manipur, they must all resign, he demanded.
He also opposed the idea of introducing any Bill which will allow the production of liquor in the State.
The president further demanded 1951 to be the base year for identifying the Manipuri and the non Manipuri population in the State and claimed that if the base year is made 1972, the Bill produced by the Government for the protection of the indigenous people will do more harm than good.
He also demanded the State Government to take up necessary steps to ensure transparency in the Education Department.
The president also urged for steps to bring prompt and swift justice for weightlifter Sanjita Chanu.
Sanchal conveyed that SSUM and SWA will launch Assembly Chatlo, a mass rally tomorrow to pressure the Government and all the MLAs to do the needful for the welfare of the people of Manipur and appealed to the people to take part in the movement.
