SARGAM donates items to children homes, gets ready for musical night

Imphal, December 10 2017:
The musical orchestra group SARGAM cum Performing Musical Institute donated several items to the Mongshan-gei-based BB Paul Mental Development Home and a few children home as a precursor to the special musical program-me titled Mimannadraba Shingda Kathokchaba Ningtham Ishei which will be held at the auditorium of Manipur State Film Development Society on December 13 .
The donated items included eatable things and blankets.
Expressing satisfaction, president, the All Manipur Mentally Retarded Persons Welfare Organisation, Y Ibechaobi said, "Even if all of us have the same rights, these children are in no position to fight for their own rights .
"They have been abandoned by their families.
Still we can provide them with care and protection."
Saying that many children are differently abled, Y Ibechaobi said, "we might not be able to treat or cure them but we can give all our love and affection and look after their maintenance." She added it is distressing at times to think about their future though with the help from the public, there are many things that can be done for these children .
The Government of India had passed a special Act on December 23, 2016 but no authority has ever taken up any welfare programme for the children in Manipur, she said .
"However, Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren announced a scheme for the these children recently.
This is commendable and very encouraging," she added .
Speaking on the occasion, social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram lamented that the maltreatment of differently abled children is rampant in developing and underdeveloped countries .
He added that the December 13 musical night is an attempt to create awareness among the masses on the plight of these children .
SARGAM’s advisor Bipin, president Dhananjoy, organising chairman B Netachandra Sharma, convenor H Jugin, and others also took part in the donation distribution ceremony.
