Titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba has strongly condemned the act of hacking a very old Uningthou tree growing within the sacred site of Kongba Maru.
Speaking to media persons at the royal palace today, Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the very old tree which is considered divine by followers of Sanamahi faith was found hacked at the base by almost 80 per cent on April 24 .
Currently, the entire human race is facing a very difficult time on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is a matter of grave concern that a huge tree growing within the sacred site of Kongba Maru which is considered divine by a large section of people was hacked amid the country-wide lockdown, Sanajaoba decried.
Meanwhile, the Kongba Maru Laiphamlen Apunba Semgat Lup has lodged a written complaint to Sagolmang police station in connection with hacking the sacred tree.
Moreover, the royal palace took up the matter with Chief Minister N Biren.
Subsequently, Imphal East district police have been investigating the matter, said the titular king.
He then exuded confidence that police would soon establish identity of the culprit(s) .
Nonetheless, the titular king appealed to all sections of people not to upload inflammatory and communal posts in social media over hacking of the sacred tree.
Representatives of the Royal Palace's Uttra Shanglen, Kongba Maru Laiphamlen Apunba Semgat Lup, 64 Kangla Phamthous and youth clubs of Khundrakpam AC were also present at the press meet.
